I especially appreciate that her looks are not the primary area of attraction. Even the growing romance between the characters is not irritating. more rly hysterical nor does she become a caricature when presented with difficulties. This book is a stand-alone in the world this author already created. The female character is easy to like, without a lot of the Mary-Sue qualities you tend to get. Would definitely recommend for younger readers, since it is not gritty at all, no not even a little bit. But they are charmingly written and she surprises me in other ways! Unfortunately there's no really stand-out villain - as sweet and likable as most of her main characters are, Golding really excels at creative baddies - but I liked it. Off the top of my head, in fact, it's the third. Review 1: This is not the first book by Julia Golding in which the beautiful light-skinned gentle heroine has been sheltered in a foreign land by a handsome dark-skinned stranger.
